Established in 1997, Soltreks was founded by Lorri Hanna and Douglas Sabo who noticed students being “missed”, “lost”, or “hidden” within therapeutic and wilderness programs. With group sizes traditionally of 10-15 students, it became clear to Lorri and Doug that individuals needed a more personal approach toward healing their relationships and themselves.

They developed a program unlike others offering One-on-One treks and named the program Soltreks—the one (solo) trek for the soul—with the intent on making a difference in the lives of children, young adults, and families.

Soltreks’ customized and individualized approach was created with a commitment to youth and families that has not waned. The couple decided to establish Soltreks in the heart of the country where there was another need- to support Midwest families-where it remains the only wilderness program of its kind. Built upon a foundation of integrity and strong work ethic, it seemed most appropriate that Soltreks would find its home amongst like-minded neighbors along the north shore of Lake Superior, MN.

In addition to the One-on-One treks, Soltreks growth includes year round small group, family, and specialty treks. Group size remains small to ensure the unique attention to detail each participant and family receives. Soltreks has grown as well to include some of the most dedicated and gifted people in the industry.

The essence of the program is maintained by choosing quality over quantity. Both founders remain directly involved with the program and staff with spirit, loyalty, and commitment that began in 1997. Graduates walk away with a better sense of who they are and who they want to become.

As the name suggests, Soltreks truly provides treks for the soul.
