The greatest gift parents can give to their
family is to engage in their own counseling
and self reflection at the same time as
their child is on a trek. Parent workshops
are currently offered during the summer and
attendance is required. Parent workshops
bring awareness to communication skills and
issues within the family structure, and
teach tools for building better
relationships with children. This personal
awareness, reflection and willingness to
share and learn will prepare the family for
structuring a successful transition plan.
|
|
Soltreks will assess your child’s needs and
make recommendations for the type of
aftercare support that is needed. We usually
recommend weekly individual and/or family
therapy to follow your Soltreks experience.
Parents may also consider a follow up visit
to assess family and individual progress and
support transitional goals.
Aftercare planning needs to begin at
enrollment with families gathering community
resources and getting support for themselves
and their child.
|
 |
Soltreks helps students and
parents carefully create plans
and contingency plans for
aftercare decisions relating to
peer influence, family
relationships, employment,
school, activities, personal
growth opportunities and
pre-planned strategies for
anticipated mistakes. |
|
 |
Soltreks assists parents,
private educational consultants,
and other professionals to make
the best choice for a student’s
next educational/personal growth
placement when needed. |
Whether the student returns home or
continues his or her progress away from
home, we continue to support the child and
family. This support may include:
|
 |
Phone calls to email
communications to visits |
|
 |
Alumni return as student leaders
and at times, enroll in a
customized trek |
|
 |
Families are encouraged to
participate in a family trek
once their child has graduated
to enhance specific family goals |
 |
Students and families are always
welcomed back |
 |
Home visits are also an option |
Graduates are always welcomed
back as they are part of the
Soltreks Family.
