HISTORY
Established in 1996 and incorporated in 1997, Soltreks was founded by Doug Sabo and Lorri Hanna who noticed students being “missed”, “lost”, or “hidden” within therapeutic and wilderness programs. It became clear those students needed a more personal approach toward healing their relationships and personal growth process.
They developed a program unlike others offering One-on-One treks and named the program Soltreks – the one (solo) trek for the soul – with the intent on making a difference in the lives of children, young adults, and families.
Soltreks’ customized and individualized approach began with the same commitment they have today with the focus on one individual at a time. Built upon a foundation of integrity and strong work ethic, it seemed most appropriate that Soltreks would find its home amongst like-minded neighbors along the north shore of Lake Superior, MN. The natural areas are both healing and restorative. It remains the only wilderness program of its kind in the area.
Soltreks' programs expanded over the years to include a summer adventure program, family treks, a young adult program and treks for adults. When a group trek is offered, the size remains small to ensure attention to each participant. Some of the most dedicated and gifted people in the field of wilderness programs contributed to the development and growth of the program. Soltreks continues to focus on quality over quantity, with the spirit, loyalty, and commitment that began in 1996.
In 2014, Sailing was added as a program option. Doug currently offers One-on-One personal growth journeys for adults over eighteen. Together, they facilitate numerous transformational journeys for those who are in a space of contemplation and seeking personal empowerment. Lorri also offers individual and small group somatic practices, retreats, workshops and transformational life coaching. To learn more, see Barefoot Souls.
As the name suggests, Soltreks truly provides treks for the soul by clearing a path to navigate toward one's true nature and life purpose. Graduates walk away with a better sense of who they are and who they want to become.
